Analysis of trading data for the first two days of official launch of the Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited (PSX) reveals that contribution by TRE certificate holders of the former Lahore Stock Exchange and Islamabad Stock Exchange towards trading volumes has increased. Prior to integration of the three exchanges trading volumes at LSE and ISE were a meagre 0.27 percent of the combined trading at all the stock exchanges.

However, data for the first two days of trading at PSX puts this figure at 5.02 and 5.71 percent, respectively, even when market volumes are generally depressed. It is a very healthy sign for the market and it is hoped that such a trend will continue with increased participation by all the TRE certificate holders. This would resultantly increase competition and efficiency in the market while also improving service delivery for retail investors.-PR
